To help both employers and interested employees benefit from employment in Canada and overcoming labor shortage Canadian Government created Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) process. And generally Canadian employer willing to hire foreign national would have to obtain authorization from ESDC (Employment and Social Development Canada), also known as LMIA. Although going through the LMIA process would be the rule for most of the cases, there are still LMIA-exempt work permits including post graduate work permits, open spousal work permits, International Experience Canada After graduating from a designated Canadian educational institution, international graduates may work in Canada for up to three years.
